Klabo, Brown & Co., LLC was founded in 2005, in downtown Aberdeen, South Dakota. In the years since, the office at 102 3rd Ave SW has served thousands of tax returns, kept the books for hundreds of small businesses and farms, and answered the phone through twenty tax seasons — and, just as importantly, through the other eight months of each year.
We've stayed deliberately small. That isn't a limitation; it's the point. When you call, you reach people who know your file. When you stop in, you're a client, not an account number. Many of the families and businesses we serve have been with us for well over a decade, and we treat that continuity as the real measure of an accounting firm.
Your tax return contains the most complete financial picture of your life that exists anywhere. We treat it that way. Client information stays in our office, on our systems, shared only as needed to do the work you engaged us for. Physical documents are handled carefully; returns and records are retained under professional retention standards.
Before we prepare anything, you get an engagement letter: what we'll do, what we need from you, how the fee is set and what the deadlines are. It's a plain-language document and a professional standard, and it means there are no surprises on either side.
Some tax offices are essentially seasonal — open four months, gone the rest. We built this firm the other way. Tax season, January through April, is our busiest stretch, with extended hours and Saturday appointments. But the same office, same phone number and same people are here in August when an IRS notice arrives, in November when a year-end decision has to be made, and in June when you're thinking about buying equipment.
